About The Southern Peninsula Classic & Historic Car Club Inc.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CAR CLUB

The SPC&HCC was formed in 1974 by a group of like-minded car enthusiasts. With steady growth over 50 years, we now have about 250 members. We are affiliated with the Federation of Vintage, Veteran & Classic Vehicle Clubs and the Association of Motoring Clubs (AOMC). About 140 members have cars registered on red club plates. We have badges and clothing items printed with the club insignia for sale to members.

We foster a friendly relaxed atmosphere. We try to help each other with advice, hands-on assistance with repairs / restorations, or support members with good-hearted social interaction.

The Club is organised by a keen committee and our hard-working editor sends out a monthly colour magazine “The CrankHandle” to all members. Some are posted as hardcopy, others by email. The CrankHandle also is uploaded to the website www.crankhandle.com.au.  There are men and women of all ages in our ranks and many are retirees.

Unlike some other car clubs, we are a multi-marque club with a big variety of vehicles – at least 30 marques - from 1914 model T Fords to a 1990 Mercedes, from a 1955 Citroen to a 1979 MGB.

.Most of our members’ cars are from the 1930’s to 1960’s. For red-plate permit registration, we have a rolling 30 – year cut-off. The Committee can approve applications for younger “special” vehicles.  See By-Laws but we try to be flexible and inclusive.

Many members are justly proud of their vehicles – some of which have been restored from a rusty chassis. Some cars are in concours condition while others are “original”

Among our events are monthly meetings at the Dromana Community Hall, Hodgkinson St.

1st Tuesday each month 7.30 pm. We often have a guest speaker. There are also local trips to nearby attractions on the Mornington Peninsula, show ‘n’ shine events, visits to museums or picnic spots, tours in convoy, bus trips, charity events, auction nights, BBQ’s, Christmas dinners, etc.

Members are encouraged to drive their classic cars in these events – weather & distance permitting. Suggestions for events or improvements are encouraged from members and visitors are welcome at our meetings. The Club’s email address is     admin@crankhandle.com.au
